Lesson 30: Winner Never Quit! by Mia Hamm
Question to think about: What can you learn from story characters?
Words to know: brothers,everyone, field, loved, most, only, people, sorry
Comprehension: Understand characters and summarize
Author's Craft: Onomatopoeia (words that represent the sounds they represent) For example: zip and zoom
Phonics: Looking at syllables with a CV or VCCV plus prefixes un- and -re
Vocabulary strategies: Suffix -ly
Fluency Practice: Reading rate- adjusting your rate of speed depending upon what it is that you are reading (For example: a fairy tale would not be read at the same rate as a non-fiction book about sharks)
Grammar: Adjectives that compare- adjectives with -er and -est
Writing: Writing an opinion paragraph and thinking about organization
The students have been participating in Readers Theater with various fables. They have been working in groups of 3-5 depending on how many characters are in the story. It has been such a fun experience for all. This experience not only allows them to work in cooperative groups, but also helps with their fluency, expression and brings out their creativity. We will continue with more Readers Theater this week. Please allow them to bring in a prop if it fits the need for story. They truly are having the BEST time with this activity!!! :)
